I’ve been enchanted by Africa for as long as I can remember. Whilst I’ve loved every single moment, the most memorable experiences, as is often in life, are the firsts. I can still vividly remember my first safari guide – George, a keen birder - and the incredible moment I saw wild elephants pass my tent for the first time. My favourite memory though, has to be gorilla trekking in Uganda – it’s such an exhilarating experience. After years of travelling the continent, I’ve loved bringing my passion and expertise together to create Africa Sky.
Ever since living in South Africa as a guide, Africa has been one of my favourite destinations. I’ve travelled extensively over the continent and each trip has given me a unique experience – but if there’s one recurring element, it’s the way each landscape takes your breath away. I have many amazing memories, including a warm Christmas, but nothing beats the feeling of finally seeing a pack of wild dog in Hwange National Park after having them on my bucket list for 13 years. I absolutely love helping customers create their own unforgettable moments – and I always recommend taking binoculars!
I may have travelled far and wide, but Africa never fails to take my breath away - whether I’m driving along South Africa’s Garden Route, or watching the amazing Masai Mara wildebeest migration. Botswana truly captured my heart – staying on a house boat on the Chobe River was such a unique experience I’ll never forget. Africa is always full of surprises too, especially when we were let in to Namibia from Botswana by a village man in a football t shirt! I’ve had some incredible experiences, and it’s always a huge pleasure to help others create their own.
Every time I visit Africa I love every moment. One of my favourite memories has to be watching a leopard decide whether to pounce on a row of zebra in Tarangire – thankfully he didn’t as we were worried about the baby zebra at the back! Visiting Ngorongoro Crater was also very moving – we were the first there and felt like the only people in the world, and being woken up by a lion around eight metres from the back of my tent was unforgettable. The best part of my job is creating itineraries for customers they’ll remember forever too.
I’ll never forget the moment I first saw a lion in Africa – it completely took my breath away. I’ve travelled to many places, but Africa has always stuck in my mind as a place where exciting and sometimes crazy adventures happen everywhere you turn. My favourite adventure was a month’s trek in Malawi – there were so many unbelievable experiences during this camping trip, including trying to fashion a pen out of walking sticks for our chickens! If there’s one thing I’ve learnt though, is to put down the camera once in a while and just take it all in.
An African safari is one of the most amazing experiences I’ve ever enjoyed during my years in travel. Kenya has a special place in my heart, not only for the beautiful landscapes and the wildlife that seem to pop up everywhere you turn, but also for the incredible friendliness we received from the people there. I believe everyone deserves to experience Africa’s charm, and I love helping customers create their unforgettable trip. It’s true what they say – all of Africa’s countries offer something unique, so visit as many locations as you can for a perfect safari!
Ever since my first safari in Sabi Sands I’ve been hooked, despite getting lost and finding myself reading a signpost incredibly close to three rhino! Since then I’ve travelled extensively over the continent, falling ever more in love with its impressive landscapes and amazing wildlife. Ballooning over the Masai Mara and white water rafting along the Zambezi River are two moments that just can’t be beaten. Now I’ve been reliving my favourite memories whilst handpicking the best lodges and camps for our Africa site, and I can’t wait for you to see them.
