Meru National Park, Kenya
A wonderful ambience welcomes everyone to Offbeat Meru, a traditional tented camp set in the Bisandi National Reserve, away from the crowds of nearby Meru National Park. It blends the intimacy and ambience of a mobile camp, with the comforts and charms of a luxury lodge. We love the harmonious blend, how it lures you into the wilderness without forcing you to jump from your comfort zone.
The tents are relatively simple yet spacious. They’re complete with a bathroom with flush toilet and hot shower. We think the lack of mains electricity is a bonus, helping you fully appreciate the rhythm of the wild (solar lighting is provided and cameras can be charged each day). A swimming pool is the only permanent structure in the whole camp; you can’t rival watching animals while taking a dip in the cooling water.
Animals literally wander through the camp, evidence of how well Offbeat Meru blends into nature. Guided walks around the camp are another thrilling way to get acquainted with the four-legged locals. Enthusiastic guides also lead you on game drives in open-sided vehicles, exploring both Bisandi National Reserve and Meru National Park.
This is a camp that opens your senses. It allows you to soak up the beauty of wild Africa in all its tones, from the baboons in the trees to the grazers that wander past at dusk.
