Nestled on its own private island of the same name, Denis Island offers wonderful, barefoot luxury in the heart of the crystal-clear Indian Ocean. With its own farm, charming rustic cottages and chilled out vibes, we love the remoteness of this luxury hotel.
There are 25 cottages altogether, all with their own little slice of sugary sand beach and looking out onto the azure waters. There’s no WiFi or TV in the cottages, instead offering a complete getaway from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, and promoting a sense of calm and rejuvenation. The open-air bathrooms will make you feel like you’re pampering in the wilderness too.
The Beach Cottages feature a small terrace and garden area, whilst the Deluxe Beach Cottages feature a larger garden fit with a double daybed. The Beachfront Cottage Spas are only steps from the beach, and feature a private massage area by the outdoor bathroom. There is also one Family Cottage, which features a large, separate living area and a beautiful master bedroom, whilst the Beach Cottage has its own plunge pool and an extensive garden area.
There’s no swimming pool here – it was damaged beyond repair by unseasonal tide surges – but you won’t miss it thanks to the endless waters that surround the island. There’s a great water sports hut too, offering snorkelling equipment and paddle boards, or you can hop on your complimentary bike and cycle around the whole island. A great way to spend one of your days is venturing on a guided tour around the island, taking you through the farm and the conservation areas.
After a day of pure relaxation, head along to the restaurant for delicious a la carte meals, including homemade ice cream, and meats and vegetables grown and raised on the island itself. Kicking off your shoes and wandering around barefoot is one of the hotel’s greatest pleasures – it really adds to that laidback yet luxurious feel.
