Bisate Lodge

Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda

Delightfully located in an eroded volcanic cone, Bisate Lodge is the newest luxury lodge in Volcanoes National Park. Everything about the design is contemporary, with rooms and communal areas exuding a modern opulence. In contrast, the vistas are indelibly old-world, and you’ll be gazing out over the jagged peaks and alpine volcanic forest.

This is an exceptional luxury base for anyone going gorilla trekking. Bisate Lodge is a short drive from the park headquarters where all gorilla treks depart from. You might also want to visit the lesser-known but equally enchanting golden monkeys in the park, or see the lava tunnels of the Musanze Caves.

Bisate Lodge is run by Wilderness Safaris, one of Africa’’s flagship safari lodge operators. It’s brand new and only opening midway through 2017. From what we’ve seen it offers the same high quality as their other premier lodges across the continent. There’s a fantastic focus on conservation and we love how the lodge encourages guests to learn more about the conservation work.

With just six decadent en-suite villas there’s a feeling of exclusivity. Each is exceptionally appointed using locally-sourced materials and gives off an air of new-world African design. Combine this with the views and the service and you can see why we’re tipping this luxury lodge to quickly establish itself as one of East Africa’s premier places to stay.
