Mountain Gorilla View Lodge
Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda
Hidden on the slopes of Mount Sabinyo, this mid-range ecolodge is just a 15-minute drive from Volcanoes National Park headquarters and the gorilla trekking trailheads. If you’re only visiting the park for one or two nights, the location is unbeatable. If you’re staying longer then consider adding a golden monkey trek into your itinerary. And with such a central location you might also be seeing a few primate around the lodge.
We think that Mountain Gorilla View Lodge offers exceptional value. While it’s not the most luxurious option in Volcanoes National Park, the spacious en-suite cottages have a lovely living area, complete with a fireplace and private verandah. We really like the quaint and cosy feel to it all, which is enhanced further by the type of service that makes you immediately feel at home.
The ecolodge is at high altitude and it can get cold once the sun drops, so we’d recommended bringing a few layers for enjoying the mystical sunset views over the forest. Rather than being gourmet, the food offers a genuine taste of Rwanda; you’ll appreciate the rich and fulsome meals after a full day trekking in the forest.
Mountain Gorilla View Lodge offers convenience and comfort in abundance. If you’re planning an extended stay around Volcanoes National Park then we’d probably look for something a little more upmarket. But for getting in and visiting the gorillas, it’s hard to rival the homely feel.
