Singita Kwitonda Lodge

Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda

Enveloped by lush forest, Singita Kwitonda Lodge’s ethos is to create an immersive, sustainable experience on the edge of Volcanoes National Park. We love how Singita has bought the surrounding communities together to create this incredible retreat – it’s truly been built with its location in mind.

If you’re hoping for an eco-friendly stay where you can really connect with your surroundings, then this is the place to be. The eight suites were built by nearby communities, created with oven-red clay bricks, handcrafted tiles and river stone, whilst the interiors were designed by local artists and blend contemporary style with tradition.

Overlooking the Sabyinyo, Gahinga and Muhabura volcanoes and connected by volcanic rock pathways, each suite features a heated plunge pool, indoor and outdoor fireplaces, a covered veranda and a sitting area. Nearby Kataza House is a brilliant choice for families, boasting four bedrooms, living and dining areas and a kitchen.

The central hub is just as enticing, with indoor and outdoor lounging spaces looking out over the enchanting National Park, an outdoor fire pit for lazy evenings, an interactive kitchen, and a wine cellar. The delicious cuisine is another nod at the lodge’s focus on sustainability, with much of the ingredients grown in the garden.

Of course, those who travel to Rwanda usually do so for the opportunity to see gorillas in their natural habitat. Kwitonda Lodge offers all-day treks to encounter these gentle giants, and it’s an experience that will never fail to inspire and impress. Gorilla trekking is only available to those over the age of 16, but there are many other activities families could partake in, including cooking classes, village tours, and even a Conservation Lounge to learn more about the lodge’s work.
