Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge

Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda

After a full day trekking to see gorillas or golden monkeys, there’s something wonderfully reassuring about returning to Wilderness Sabyinyo.

Rest the legs in the bathtub, soak up the contemporary ambience, and recount your wildlife experiences whilst gazing over Volcanoes National Park. If you’re still feeling active then the lodge can organise many escorted walks and mountain bike excursions in the local area.

The lodge has supreme views and you can watch mist flickering through the rainforest from your private verandah. The main lodge has a lovely dining room and sitting room, where roaring log fires keep you company into the evening. Every vista is a showstopper here; dramatic volcanic peaks provide the backdrop while enchanting forest spills out for miles below.

This luxury lodge is set at 2,150 metres but the rooms never get cold. Built from local stone, with terracotta roof tiles, their design ensures you’re always snug and warm. We love how the staff always go the extra mile to ensure you’re comfortable, from providing detailed information on local gorilla troops to surprising you with hot water bottles in the evening.

For many years this was the flagship property in and around Volcanoes National Park and for us it is still one of our firm favourites.
