Camp Kipwe
Damaraland, Namibia
Elegantly blending into the rocks of the Twyfelfontein Conservancy, Camp Kipwe is ideally situated for discovering the natural splendour of Damaraland. From elephants to rock art, stargazing to desert hikes, you could easily spend a few days at this eco lodge, captivated by the serenity and ethereal hues of the desert.
This is one of the most uniquely designed ecolodges in Southern Africa. Nine igloo-shaped bungalows are covered in pink and red bougainvillea, helping them match the unusual rocky surroundings. The innovative circular design keeps them warm on the winter nights and cool through the summer desert days. They’re simple and comfortable; best of all, they’re excellent value.
Each bungalow uses the surrounding rocks as walls, hemming in an en-suite open-air bathroom; gazing up at the desert’s night sky from here is something we’ll never forget. You’re really deep within wild Namibia and Camp Kipwe often feels that you’re spending the night on Mars.
Guided activities are provided at an additional cost but they’re very reasonably priced. Try an elephant nature drive, visit the World Heritage Twyfelfontein rock art, or book a local guide for a nature walk. Like many places in Damaraland, this is an outdoor playground and you’ll never be short of where to go or what to do.
