Kulala Desert Lodge
Sesriem/Sossusvlei, Namibia
The close proximity to Sossusvlei’s soaring sand dunes is arguably Kulala Desert Lodge’s main draw, but its rustic yet luxurious tents and back-to-nature philosophy is what made us fall in love with it. Nestled in the barren Kulala Wilderness Reserve, this is certainly a unique property.
There are 23 thatched ‘kulalas’ altogether, four of which can accommodate a family of four. All of the tents are rural and charming, featuring a double bed and a small terrace overlooking the dunes. Our favourite part of these tents is the star-bed found up on the rooftop – on a warm, starry night we love venturing up here to sleep al fresco.
The main area is characterful too, the clay and thatch architecture creating an authentic African ambience. From the cosy fireplace in the lounge, to the spacious open-air dining deck and cool swimming pool, this is the perfect place to relax in between game drives.
Kulala Desert Lodge’s arid landscapes offer fantastic adrenaline-fuelled activities, including quad biking, hot air balloon rides, and horseback safaris, including a myriad of elusive desert wildlife.
