Okonjima Bush camp & Bush Suite
Central Highlands, Namibia
With its spacious chalets and exceptional guides, Okonjima Bush Camp provides intimate experiences with cheetahs and leopards. It’s our recommended base for seeing the work of the AfriCat Foundation and we love how every guest can enjoy an individually-tailored program.
There are a number of camps on Okonjima Nature Reserve, all of them operated by the same company. We would highly recommend the Okonjima Bush Camp over the much larger and less stylish Okonjima Plains Camp. Completely separate from both is the two-bedroom Bush Suite, which is ideal for families or couples seeking to have a secluded piece of the reserve.
Each of the chalets is well appointed. Rather than windows there are canvas flaps, helping bring in the sounds of the wild while still offering views onto wandering antelopes. During the afternoon we love the raised swimming pool, while sitting around the fireplace in the lounge is great for the desert nights.
When you’re in a reserve that’s home to a fifth of the world’s cheetahs it’s definitely worth staying two nights. This creates a great opportunity to track the spotted cats on foot and enjoy an intimacy with these mystical predators. Plus there are activities exclusive to Okonjima Bush Camp, like nighttime drives and special photo hides
