andBeyond Chobe Under Canvas
Chobe National Park, Botswana
Surrounded by elephants and enveloped by the ambience of the wild, Chobe Under Canvas is a small mobile tented camp that uses a variety of private camping sites along the Chobe River. The camp is packed up and moved every five days and we love how this provides every visitor with a completely unique wildlife experience.
Such remote camping means thrilling resident wildlife and you’ll struggle to go a few moments without hearing or sensing the presence of elephants. Giraffe lope past at regular intervals, buffalo are heard grazing near the tents, and you’re in an exceptional position for spotting Chobe’s sometimes elusive big cats.
The spacious canvas tents are fitted out with all the necessary comforts, including an en-suite bathroom with flush toilet and hot bucket shower. There’s also a main marquee-style tent for meals; we’ve been seriously impressed with what the chefs can rustle up on rather rudimentary cooking facilities. Every night there will be a roaring campfire to sit around with the flames keeping away the predators as everything is completely unfenced.
This is a very adventurous camping option and won’t be suited to everyone. You’re completely immersed in the Chobe wilderness, engulfed by the rolling rhythm of nature. Through the day you enjoy game drives and boat trips on the Chobe River, then the downtown at the camp brings more and more animals. It’s all very safe and a two-night stay is a great way to lose yourself in wonderful wildlife viewing.
June to October is dry season for peak wildlife viewing.
No single supplements are payable and with so many animals it’s never lonely for solo travellers.
