&Beyond Savute Under Canvas

Linyanti Wetlands, Botswana

Hiding amongst the trees in a remote corner of the Chobe ecosystem, Savute Under Canvas ideal for anyone wanting an authentic and comfortable mobile camping experience. You’re completely surrounded by wildlife, from large elephants herds to grazing buffalo and resonant lion roars. Yet the traditional safari tents have quality beds and en-suite bathrooms with hot water and Western-style toilets.

It’s not luxurious, however, you’re able to stand up in the tents and there’s a marquee tent with a stocked bar. You don’t stay here for a swimming pool or WiFi connection. You stay at Savute Under Canvas to maximise the interaction with the wild. Completely unfenced and open to the sounds of nature, this mobile camp provides incredible big-game viewing all year around.

Savute is a lesser visited part of the Chobe ecosystem so the area isn’t spoiled by that many other safari vehicles. You’ll hear hyenas through the night, spot thousands of impala and elephants roaming past, and never be too far away from lion prides, leopards, and wild dogs. The camp packs up every five days but stays in the Savute area, so every game drive explores a very intriguing and abundant part of the Chobe landscape.

We can never get over the intimacy of the experience. As a campfire roars, giraffe are silhouetted just 40 metres away. Nature sings you a lullaby and we’ve woken to a whole variety of prints in the sand around the camp. It sounds a little scary and there’s no doubt that this camp will get your heart racing; but it’s very safe and an exhilarating opportunity to appreciate the natural world.
