andBeyond Xaranna Okavango Delta Camp

Okavango Delta, Botswana

The serene Xaranna Camp provides a surreal impression of the Okavango Delta. Tucked away in a quiet area of permanent waterways and lagoons, it’s as idyllic as anywhere in Botswana. It’s not a camp for spotting lots of big cats, but a place to discover the untouched wilderness of the world’s largest inland delta.

You’ll probably arrive by boat, an indication of how the camp is hidden amongst romantic waterways. Most activities are done in traditional mokoro canoes, a vessel that complements the tranquility of the wilderness. Kudu and springbok skip around, elephants are your neighbours, and the birdlife is spectacular. Walking safaris are another silent way to explore this unique ecosystem.

This is a camp for indulgence. Humongous rooms come with a private plunge pool and day bed. Bathrooms are exceptional and the sunken bath has often soothed our muscles after an afternoon walk. Each of the nine suites has its own private butler and the service is exemplary. Massages can also be booked at extra cost; little can rival looking out over the Delta as the travel aches are kneaded out.

Xaranna Okavango Delta Camp is about plush accommodation and indulgent pampering. It feels a lot more like a lodge than a camp, with a fabulously remote location that helps you explore the subtleties of the Okavango, rather than see the more famous animals. We think it makes a relaxing two-night interlude to an adventurous safari, or the tranquil place to finish your journey through Botswana.

Those aged five and younger can’t join any of the safari activities but a child minder can be arranged in advance.
