Potato Bush Camp

Lower Zambezi National Park, Zambia

Hidden underneath soaring mahogany, acacia tortillis and sausage winter thorn trees, Potato Bush Camp offers a shady retreat for families right by the Lower Zambezi River. With a mix of African textiles, traditional canvas, and rustic Zambian rosewood, this small luxury camp is a vibrant spot for a secluded safari.

There are only five tents altogether, including three Luxury Safari Tents and two Family Houses. The Luxury Safari Tents have plenty of creature comforts, including a plunge pool and two-person hammock, as well as folding doors that open out onto a large balcony perfect for relaxing and watching wildlife roam past.

Meanwhile, the Family Houses have two bedrooms, separated by a wonderfully comfortable living, dining and balcony area. Both rooms are en-suite, and the private plunge pool is ideal for leisurely afternoons with the family.

Connected to the main area by raised timber boardwalks, the only part of the camp that’s on the floor is the cosy campfire nestled under the stars – this makes the camp not only very safe, but great for the surrounding environment, too. We love the sociable boma area, and the large open plan lounge, dining and bar area is both colourful and homely. Dining is certainly a social affair here, especially when dining in the shallows of the river.

There are plenty of fantastic opportunities on offer here, too. Day and night drives are a brilliant way to spot prowling lions, whilst a leisurely  boat safari is ideal for those hoping to get a close-up view of magnificent elephant. The canoe safaris here are definitely one of the big highlights - we love slowly floating along the Chifungulu Channel, arguably the most beautiful part of the Zambezi River.
