Katara Lodge

Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda

Katara is our favourite place to stay in Northern Queen Elizabeth for the view, the service and the very special rooms.

This luxury lodge is set on an escarpment 30 minutes from the main north park gate.  Its position gives the most spectacular views over the park and out towards Lake Edward.  The border of the park is just meters away at the base of the escarpment so night time visits from the game especially elephants is not unusual.

The main area of the lodge is of wooden construction with a separated bar and lounge area joined centrally by a bar area.  The whole building is open on one side giving uninterrupted views over the lodge rooms onto the plains below.

The lodge has a decent sized pool overlooking the plains set to one side for privacy with a scattering of lounging chairs in the gardens to relax after a long day in the park.

The eight thatched cottages are a major feature of this property.  They all contain a star bed that can be rolled out onto your veranda at night for a very special experience.  The bathrooms are again extremely large with both baths and showers.

The cottages are very spacious with canvas front walls that can be pealed back when the sun is still up.  All have large verandas set on the edge of the escarpment with simply beautiful views.
