Greystoke Mahale
Mahale Mountains & Lake Tanganyika, Tanzania
The lakeside, rustic charm of Greystoke Mahale creates a tranquil ambience, perfect for relaxing in between searching for incredible chimpanzees. Tucked on a pristine beach overlooking Lake Tanganyika, we love the rural romance of Greystoke Mahale.
Adding to the tented lodge’s charm is the fact that all of the rooms are made from sustainable materials sourced from Lake Tanganyika, including old dhows bought from local villages and thatch from palm trees. The six open-fronted bandas (rooms) therefore evoke a rustic charm, with patterned furnishings and gorgeous views of the lake.
We love spending the morning tucking into breakfast in the main mess area, a spectacular place with Asian-inspired thatched roofs and wonderful views of the lake and the verdant Congo forest.
The remoteness is what entices us here time and time again. Perched within the forest trees, you’ll feel like the only ones on the beach, save the inquisitive chimpanzees that you’ll find on a life-changing trek.
