Ruaha River Lodge
Ruaha National Park, Tanzania
The oldest lodge in Ruaha National Park continues to provide a warm welcome and a relaxed atmosphere. There are 26 stone cottages standing over the Ruaha River, each with large private verandahs that overlook animals coming for a drink. We think they’re exceptional value for the price as you enjoy comfortable accommodation without interrupting the mystique of the wild.
Flush toilets and hot showers are a feature in each cottage, along with directors’ chairs for the dreamy evenings watching the river. Despite the relatively large size of the lodge, everything is nicely spaced and you’ll have plenty of privacy. There are two spectacularly-located dining areas which are perfect for a romantic lunch or an hour with the resident elephants.
As it was the first accommodation in the park, Ruaha River Lodge really picked the ultimate location. Most days follow a classic safari program with morning and afternoon game drives in Ruaha’s most prolific wildlife areas. On a three-night itinerary we’d also recommend one longer full-day drive, where you take a picnic to enjoy next a hippo pool. A short walking safari is also sometimes an option; the surrounding area is prime big-cat country so the guides analyse safety risks and opportunity for walks on a daily basis.
What Ruaha River Lodge doesn’t offer in luxuries it makes up for in animals. With an eclectic cast of wildlife so close by, you’ll experience everything that makes Ruaha such an outstanding safari destination.
