Siwandu
Selous Game Reserve, Tanzania
Stylish and swanky, Siwandu is draped across the shores of Lake Nzerakera in the heart of Selous Game Reserve. It’s defined by space and we love how exclusive everything feels.
The 13 tents are spread across two separate camps, both with open-sided dining and lounge areas. There’s a swimming pool for cooling off in the afternoon and an elevated bar with views over the river. The camp’s design enables half of it to be booked out for groups on an exclusive-use basis. Yet even if it’s a safari just for two, you’ll quickly feel at home. Our favourite feature are the bathrooms, which have open-air showers and glimpses towards the lake shore.
Wildlife fills the water and it won’t be long before you start encountering hippos and buffalos. You can seek out the big cats on game drives, or follow the scent of antelopes on enchanting walking safaris. Lake Nzerakera is part of a labyrinth of waterways that leads down to the river, creating vibrant motorboat safaris. To experience it all, you’ll definitely need at least a three-night stay.
Siwandu really excels in the little details. We love getting welcomed by tiny shots of cold banana liquor, chocolate treats added to a bush picnic, or flowers dotted around the bathroom as a post-walking safari surprise. With its lovely setting and quiet sense of indulgence, it’s a camp that’s won many admirers.
