Selous Game Reserve, Tanzania
Situated amongst baobab trees, high on the hills of Selous Game Reserve, Beho Beho finds the rare balance between rusticity and luxury. It looks and feels very authentic, something that’s magnified when you spot giraffe and buffalo on the nearby savannah. Yet the glistening swimming pool and lavish outdoor bathtubs are just two examples of the lodge’s swanky interior style.
Most Selous lodges are located on the water and we like how Beho Beho bucks this trend. It means that the game drives almost immediately locate the park’s four-legged giants, quickly encountering big cats on the move or large herds wandering around. You’re still close enough to the water for a motorboat safari with the hippos, an activity that’s as flexible as the game drives; we love recommending a camp camp that is so adaptable to your requests and interests.
Some of southern Tanzania’s best guides work at Beho Beho and we’ve been continually amazed by their knowledge of the local area. Rather than stick with one guide, you’re deliberately assigned to different guides throughout your stay, which creates a very convivial atmosphere. Top of your wish list should be a walking safari; guides takes you deep into the bush and you’ll be safely encountering Selous’s giants.
Beho Beho does a lot of things differently to other camps and it almost invariable gets its right. The guest cottages are incredible spacious and comfortable, offering endless views and lots of privacy. We’d recommend at least three full days to make the most of it all; even with five to seven days the experience will stay fresh.
