Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Tanzania
For something truly unique, The Highlands camp is the place to be. Nestled on the slopes of the Olmoti volcano in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, this exclusive, secluded camp offers out-of-the-ordinary tents away from the crowds.
The Highlands is one of our favourite camps near the Nogorongoro Crater, especially their unique dome tents. Each dome offers modern luxury with a touch of authentic African charm, the large glass windows looking out onto a large terrace and beautiful sweeping landscapes.
The eight tents include a king size bed, ensuite bathrooms, and a wood-burning stove for chilly evenings, whilst half also include an extra upper level with a small bed. The lounge dome is gorgeous too, offering a cosy indoor fireplace surrounded by comfy sofas and chairs, whilst the delicious food here is gourmet and organic.
Though hidden away from the more popular areas in the conservancy, The Highlands offer a variety of fantastic excursions to create a trip of a lifetime. We love the Masai cultural experience - venturing to local villages and meeting friendly locals - whilst nature walks around Olmoti and hikes up the Empakaai Crater are also available. We’d recommend embarking on a game drive to the Nogorongoro Crater too; The Highlands are the only camp that offers private hot lunches at the crater’s summit.
