Serengeti National Park, Tanzania
Delightfully positioned in the far north of Serengeti National Park, Lamai Serengeti delivers both the thrills and charms of big-game safari. Enveloped by wilderness, the lodge offers fabulous game viewing and spectacular views over the grasslands.
You could stay here for days, lost in the rhythm of marauding hooves and hunting predators. Even if you only stay for a couple of nights, there’s a supreme sense of getting lost in the wild.
The rooms are constructed from stone and canvas, blurring the boundary of a camp and a lodge. They allow you to listen to the plains while retaining a sense of permanency. Flush toilet and hot showers are found in the large en-suite bathrooms, which are some of the best we’ve encountered in the Serengeti. Other features include a swimming pool and breezy lounge. Best of all is the private deck; each room has been carefully positioned to offer dreamy sunrise or sunset views.
Yet the main highlight for us is the location. Being so close to the Mara River, the surrounding area is home to a stunning abundance of lions and leopards. There’s unrivalled drama on most game drives, as the predators stalk the grazers, notably the phenomenal herds of zebra, wildebeest, and Thomson’s gazelle.
From July to October, Lamai Serengeti is exceptionally situated for witnessing the herds make their perilous crossing of the Mara River. From November to March, it’s a great camp for escaping the crowds and having exceptional Serengeti scenes all to yourself.
From July to October the camp is in an excellent position for the great wildebeest migration.
