Winelands, South Africa
With luscious rolling hills, sweeping valleys and verdant vineyards as its backdrop, Mont Rochelle is certainly one of our most picturesque boutique hotels in South Africa. Nestled in the heart of the Winelands in the small town of Franschhoek, this small Sir Richard Branson hotel is utterly charming.
The architecture and décor adopts a contemporary yet whimsical feel, with a large thatched roof and white walls creating an airy and tranquil ambience. There are only 22 rooms altogether in the hotel, adding a touch of intimacy and seclusion.
The Shiraz Rooms offer wonderful courtyard views, whilst the slightly larger Merlot rooms overlook the endless valley. The Cabernet Rooms are located in the Vineyard Wing and feature their own private terrace, whilst the Pinotage Suites offer gorgeous views and a separate lounge. The Cap Classique Suites are the most luxurious, featuring a separate lounge, a private terrace, and a plunge pool.
There is also The Manor House, a luxury exclusive-use villa only a short walk away from the main hotel. This villa is perfect for families looking for a private retreat, and features four suites, a kitchen, a lounge, two swimming pools and a gym. The house sleeps up to eight guests, plus a bunk room for six children.
Of course, the hotel’s location on a stunning winery lends itself to a sumptuous menu of luxurious wines, paired beautifully with two restaurants. Miko is a trendy eatery serving up international dishes with a South African twist, whilst The Country Kitchen’s scenic terrace is the perfect backdrop for a chilled lunch each day, or a romantic dinner every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The Bar is worth a visit too, with stylish décor and just as stylish cocktails.
With its remote location and naturally beautiful surroundings, Mont Rochelle is perfect for those hoping to enjoy leisurely days sipping wine and drinking in the views. The swimming pool is ideal for a refreshing dip, and those really looking to relax will love the spa. You’ll even have complimentary use of mountain bikes, and great hiking opportunities should you wish to take a break from pure relaxation.
