Cape Town, Garden Route and Eastern Cape

We believe that this leisurely 12-night itinerary has everything you could wish for in a luxurious self-drive trip to South Africa. It allows you optimum time to enjoy a country with scenic diversity, stunning coastlines, rugged mountain ranges, glistening lakes and incredible wildlife.

With so many experiences to enjoy along the iconic garden route, and in the malaria free Eastern Cape, this magnificent trip will offer you wonderful memories that you will treasure for a lifetime.

Cape Town

After your flight we know that you are going to be excited but tired. There are so many options for getting around in Cape Town that we recommend you don’t collect your hire car until your last day in this wonderful city. We will therefore arrange for a car and driver to collect you and transfer you to your hotel.

The Twelve Apostles hotel is located in a quieter area of Cape Town but still with easy access to the hustle and bustle of this incredible cosmopolitan city. With its history of top-notch service, beautiful rooms, amazing culinary fare and dramatic mountain and sea views, this hotel has always been a firm favourite with us.

You will have three nights to enjoy an array of experiences on offer in one of our favourite cities in the world.

Stellenbosch

This morning after collecting your car you will leave the Mother City and head off to the lush vineyards of Stellenbosch. Your drive will take you past numerous townships where you will see children smiling from ear to ear as they happily kick a ball around with their friends. Soon you will be rewarded with views of rolling hills and vineyards where world class wines can be found in abundance.

The luxurious Delaire Graff Estate is nestled between majestic mountains and has the most stunning backdrop for you to enjoy while sipping on a glass of their award-winning wine.

Grootbos Nature Reserve

For us your next stop is always a highlight. As well as staying in an impressive suite at this beautiful hotel, you will be treated to the most stunning, panoramic views of the ocean, experience incredible food and wine and take part in some of the wonderful experiences that are on offer here. If you happen to be here between June and October you could be in for some amazing whale sighting but the ocean here is a playground to many other mammals such as sharks, seals, penguins and dolphins all year round.

Oudtshoorn

Enjoy an early start this morning to travel the incredible R62, the longest wine route in the world. This drive can take around four to five hours and you will want to stop and take in some of the astounding views from vantage points along the route. From the dramatic scenery of Du Toit’s Kloof Pass with its cliffs, gorges and waterfalls to the beautiful Tradouw valley with fruit filled orchards dams and a mountain backdrop. Oudtshoorn is the ostrich capital of the world and there are plenty of well-run farms where you can visit these incredible and large flightless birds. Other things of interest in this area are the Cango Caves, the best known and most popular tourist caves in the country, and meerkat viewing which takes place as the sun rises over this beautiful land.

We would recommend a stay at Rosenhof Boutique Hotel for your stay in this area.  With its antique furniture, beamed ceilings, gorgeous rose garden and salt water swimming pool, you will enjoy two wonderful nights of luxurious comfort.

Knysna

In the heart of the garden route this charmingly quaint little town on the edge of a vast estuary has so much to offer. From mountain biking, boat trips, golf and local markets to a place where you can relax and feel at one with nature.  There truly is something for everyone.

You really are in for a treat with a stay at the gorgeous Pezula Hotel. You have two nights to enjoy this stunning hotel and all it has to offer.

Eastern Cape

For many this will be the highlight of your trip.  You will have three nights to experience the wonders of the Eastern Cape and we can’t think of anywhere better to do this than at Hopewell Private Game Reserve.  This boutique lodge in its idyllic location really allows you the chance to connect with nature and re-connect with yourself.  There is nothing like the thrill of spotting an elephant, giraffe, leopard or cheetah in their natural environment and you will have plenty of time to experience this during your stay on this beautiful reserve.
