Babylonstoren
Western Cape, South Africa
Situated in gorgeous grounds with unique accommodation, fresh farm-to-fork restaurants and a relaxing spa, this hotel really is a little piece of heaven in South Africa. Dating back to 1692, this 200-hectare farm is located right in the heart of the tranquil winelands.
The 3.5 hectare garden with three kilometres of paths providing hours of walking pleasure is probably the main feature of the farm. But there is so much more on offer. The Spice Garden situated within a domed conservatory hosting exotic spices such as turmeric, ginger and nutmeg, The Healing Garden and Tea Ceremony created for quiet reflection where herbs with healing properties are on offer, The Juicery where you will find cold-pressed juices made from fruit and vegetables directly from their garden and the Garden Spa where bamboo and flowing water creates an oasis of peace and relaxation.
The rooms in the Farmhouse are contemporary modern design including a cast-iron stove and beautifully marble tiled bathrooms – we love the stunning and very private loft room, ideal for honeymooners. If an authentic farm stay experience is what you are looking for, you will love the Garden Cottages set adjacent to the fruit and vegetable garden. The Fynbos Cottages are newly built in the Cape Dutch style and have spectacular views of the adjoining vineyards and orchards.
Food is a big part of your stay here. Breakfast is plentiful and consists of fresh juices, seasonal fruit, homemade muesli and freshly baked bread while the Greenhouse serves light lunches, salads, meats and cheeses and breads from their wood-fired oven. For a special treat why not have a delicious meal at the beautiful Babel restaurant where they have a real farm to fork philosophy? This restaurant is a firm favourite with guests so we highly recommend that you book in advance.
There is a wonderful spa complete with outdoor swimming pool, sauna, steam room, indoor heated vitality pool, tropical rain showers, a salt room and a gym. There are a number of treatments on offer designed to relieve stress and give you a real sense of relaxation.
