Lake Naivasha, Kenya
Dominated by lush gardens and cultivated lawns, this luxurious homestead enjoys supreme views over Lake Naivasha and the Great Rift Valley. There’s an ambience of old-world colonial glamour, which stretches from the house’s decor to the flowers that burst out along the pathways. It’s less of a safari destination and more of an exclusive retreat in an unspoilt part of Africa.
The exquisite country house dates back over a century and you can sense its age through the log fireplaces and elaborately-high ceilings. Within the grounds there’s a sparkling swimming pool and a number of walkways to explore; all come with indelible vistas over the valley and the hippos bathing in the lake.
Adjacent to the property is the Oserian Wildlife Sanctuary, a private realm that is dotted with intriguing wildlife, most notably a pair of white rhinos. Boat trips along the lake are also included, as are game drives in nearby Hell’s Gate National Park. You won’t see the big cats but you’ll have plenty of enchanting scenes keeping you company.
We’ve always been impressed with the service and attention to detail at Kiangazi House. This is a stunning property and you’ll feel like royalty at every moment. Then a hippo emerges from the water and you remember that you’re deep in the heart of Africa.
