Laikipia Conservancy Areas, Kenya
Standing on the vibrant grasslands of the Laikipia Plateau, Segera Retreat is one of Kenya’s most luxurious lodges. Wood and thatch villas feature a sunken jacuzzi bath, huge sun deck, and boutique interiors that linger long in the memory. With its own Wine Tower and spa treatments, this is a lodge for those seeking to really indulge.
What’s really impressive about Segera is how the villas blend into their surroundings. Everything has been newly built using local materials and the retreat has a minimal carbon footprint. We want to call it an eco lodge, yet it’s far too opulent to be in the same bracket as other eco lodges around the world.
The location is very impressive and we like how easy it is to see Laikipia’s residents. Rather than long bumpy game drives, short drives immerse you in a world of elephants, buffalos, big cats, endangered Grevy’s zebra, and much much more.
Activities are varied and there are opportunities to explore in and out of a vehicle. Extras include an aerial safari in a yellow bi-plane, or trips to the surrounding mountains and villages. With so much to do, you really need three or more days to explore. And when the accommodation is this good, you might even consider a week.
