Aberdare Country Club
Aberdare National Park, Kenya
A heritage property and haven in the hills, Aberdare Country Club takes you back to a time when life rolled at a serene tempo. Exceptionally appointed and confident in its old-world approach, it’s also an easy jumping off point for a wilderness safari.
We really like how this property wears multiple hats at the same time. It’s a true home away from home, where tranquility reigns and you can easily laze away an afternoon with indulgent pleasures. It’s also a classic country club, with sporting facilities and sumptuous home-cooked food. Then there are the delights of safari, enjoyed in an unusual style with horseback rides and walks through the nearby Aberdares National Park.
The 48 rooms are split across a number of guest cottages and there are various configurations to suit all group sizes. With a golf course and tennis courts, the facilities are more geared towards a traditional holiday than a safari.
However, the country club has a sister hotel that’s within Aberdare National Park if you’re looking for something a little more adventurous. We often arrange safaris than combine both, using the Country Club as a gateway for a few days of untrammelled adventure in the park, then returning to a soothing night in one of the cottages.
