Elephant Watch Camp & Safaris
Samburu National Reserve, Kenya
Elegance and eco are a rare combination that’s been perfected at Elephant Watch Camp, a boutique style property standing over the Ewaso Nyiro River. As the name suggests, you’ll be watching lots of elephants. But little can prepare you for the staggering numbers of four-legged giants that fill the grounds around the camp.
Daily plans are tweaked to the elephants’ movements, ensuring you have all possible opportunities to watch them bathing, grazing, playing, and sending orchestral hoots across the plains. You’ll see them on game drives, on foot, and from the camp. We’re big fans of how the elephants provide a big-game constant, which subsequently allows you to savour the subtle delights of the Samburu.
Head off on game drives and safari walks and you’ll be taking in collections like the small five animals, or the rare antelopes that call these vast plains home. This is a great base for a varied Samburu safari, but we can also arrange some specialist adventures, such a multi-day walking and camel safaris. And don’t think that elephants are the only famous characters; spend a few days and the excellent guides will always get you close to the resident lion prides.
Each of the six tents are delightfully decorated. They bring in the scents and sounds of the wild through canvas walls. En-suite bathrooms are built around large trees and we love the camp’s unique design.
The camp is very family friendly and an exciting choice for children, who can see elephants and other game without needing long game drives.
