Luxury Lion King Family Kenya Safari

At Africa Sky we really do know how to put together great family safaris. With the owners regularly taking safaris with their children, we understand the best places to go, the pace the trip should be and just as importantly how to balance the full-on safari elements with adventure and relaxation to catch your breath and keep the kids fully engaged.

This safari is inspired by children’s love of the Lion King films and with the landscapes of the latest film being inspired largely by the wildlife parks and conservancies of Kenya, what better place to put together this trip than the birthplace of the safari as we know it. This safari covers three game park areas.

Nairobi

As travelling with children can be tiring, we recommend your first night to stay in Nairobi rather than set off on long connecting journeys with tired kids.  A close-by hotel with a pool is a great idea and our recommendation is one where the roof top restaurant and bar is adjacent to the pool so you can all relax with everything at your finger tips.

Overnight at Crowne Plaza on a Bed & Breakfast basis.

Amboseli National Park

After breakfast head to the domestic airport a short drive away for the start of your journey, a short hour long flight to Amboseli.

On arrival you will be met and taken to your luxury accommodation and instantly start to view the majestic elephant wandering around the vast park area, all with the incredible backdrop of the famous Kilimanjaro mountain.

Your stay at the luxurious Elewana Tortillis Camp will be for in a large sized family tent. This consists of one double en-suite tent, one twin en-suite tent and a spacious private verandah. Your board basis will be Full Board with drinks included. Rated Gold from Eco-Tourism Kenya.

You will be treated to both morning and evening game drives.  Yours meals will be in the impressive restaurant area overlooking the immense form of Kilimanjaro dominating the landscape.

Overnight Elewana Tortillis Camp, Full Board for two nights

Loisaba

Next head north into the county of Laikipia. You will board a morning flight that will have you at your next camp in time for lunch. We have chosen a conservancy called Loisaba for your next stop for three nights. Here you will still see a huge variety of wildlife including a few species like the reticulated giraffe and Grevvy zebra only found north of the equator in Kenya.

However, it is also good to slow the pace so switch your game drive for a more leisurely camel ride or horse trek through the conservancy, or if you are energetic try a guided walking safari.  You will both catch your breath slowing the pace down but continue to enjoy the country's wildlife.

The kids will enjoy the large pool with spectacular views over the valley below whilst you can relax with a drink in hand looking at the wildlife.

Stay at the luxurious Elewana Loisaba Tented Camp in a large sized family tent. This consists of one double en-suite tent, one twin en-suite tent and a spacious private verandah joining the two tents just a few meters apart. Your board basis will be Full Board with drinks included. Rated Gold from Eco-Tourism Kenya.

Overnight Elewana Loiosaba Tented Camp, Full Board for three nights

Masai Mara

On your last morning you will game drive your way to the landing strip for your short flight south to the famous Masai Mara Game Reserve.

Heading down to the Masai Mara Game Reserve will deliver you an amazing Big Cat viewing experience. You will of course see a large variety of other species but you will without doubt enjoy the cats the most. There is a high concentration of large lion prides around the area we have chosen for you. Cheetah are a very regular spot and even the elusive leopard is frequently seen.

A real luxurious extra if you still have the budget is to enjoy a balloon ride. The Governor's Camps are the best place in the Mara to take these from with a spectacular flight path over the Mara river – lucky we are putting you there which means you get an extra hour in bed compared to the flyers from other camps coming to join you!

Stay at Governor's Camp in a family tent.  This is a stretched version of their regular large tents so you can get you and the kids all under one roof.  With an extra compartment with twin beds at the front of the tent, this provides the perfect base for your safari.  You will probably spend longer on safari here than any other location so whilst a slightly smaller space than your other camps you will find this just perfect for this part of your stay. Your board basis will be Full Board. Rated Silver from Eco-Tourism Kenya.

As previous locations, you will receive game drives in the morning and evening.  If there are specific things you wish to see – such as the wildebeest migration at certain times of year, your drivers are flexible enough to accommodate your wishes.

Overnight Governor's Camp, Full Board for three nights

Mombasa

Finally head to the beach for a much-deserved rest.  We will fly you directly out of the Mara to the coast so you will bypass the long-winded way to the beach and you will be feeling the sand between your toes just a couple of hours after seeing your last elephant by the Musiara Airstrip in the Mara.

We suggest a stay at the Whitesands Beach and Resort in two adjacent or interconnecting rooms (although we have a huge range of alternatives we can discuss with you to meet your needs). With a great long stretch of beach and pools the kids will love, this is the ideal place to wind down. Your board basis will be Half Board, although this can easily be upgraded.
