Mara Explorer Luxury Tented Camp

Masai Mara Game Reserve, Kenya

Nestled on a verdant, forest-clad bend of the Talek River in the Masai Mara National Reserve, the Mara Explorer Camp offers a cosy and luxurious take on the classic African safari. We love the quintessential African ambience here, and the incredible views of the wildebeest migration.

Perched in between four of Masai Mara’s key game viewing areas, this camp has phenomenal wildlife spotting opportunities, whether you’re hoping to watch hippos bask in the water, or gigantic elephants roaming through the trees. Wildlife enthusiasts will absolutely love the front row seat to the wildebeest migration from July to September, too.

There are 10 tents altogether, all facing the riverfront and evoking a rustic charm thanks to the rural mahogany furnishings, antique chests and colourful explorer-style African prints. We love the traditional living-in-the-wild vibe felt in each tent, and the views of the river from the private decks are spectacular. Our favourite part just has to be the outdoor tubs – what could be more relaxing than an open-air bath with the trickling river as your soundtrack?

The main mess tent is airy and spacious, offering the perfect spot to relax in between exhilarating game drives, whilst the riverfront dining area is effortlessly romantic. Better yet, there’s plenty of brilliant activities on offer here too, from embarking on interesting bird walks, to getting a bird’s eye view of the Mara on a wonderful balloon safari.

Migration viewing is from July to September.
