Samburu Intrepids Luxury Tented Camp
Samburu National Reserve, Kenya
Nestled along a prolific bend of the Ewaso Nyiro River, this iconic tented camp gets you close to all the animals of Samburu. The location is superb and you’ll see everything from giraffe to buffalo to Beisa oryx that are coming to take a drink. Game drives get you even closer and there’s always something magical in this remote part of northern Kenya.
Samburu Intrepids is a traditional tented camp, with spacious canvas rooms featuring four-poster beds, steaming hot showers, and electricity. Although there are 27 tents in total, a sense of intimacy has been retained through the views over the river. Palm-thatched roofs and wooden frames make the tents feel more like cottages and there are comfy seats for watching the wildlife world go by.
Game drives are led by excellent guides who enjoy an intimate knowledge of the surrounding area. You’ll see the giants, like elephants and reticulated giraffe. But Samburu is a diverse safari destination and there are dozens of unusual mammals to seek out. We’d recommended a three-night stay for discovering the eclectic charms of this untouched land.
Samburu Intrepids Camp sometimes gives off an impression of a no-frills safari. Which we think really adds to the wild ambience. But it’s still firmly within the luxury bracket, with extras like a swimming pool and large wine cellar. It has everything to make Kenya’s wilderness feel like home.
