Kenya Big Five Explorer Safari

This safari is perfect for those with a little more time, who are seeking to see the best possible wildlife settings and in particular hoping to avoid the crowds. For 11-nights you'll be smartly staying in conservation areas that adjoin the main game parks, giving equally fantastic game viewing.

Whilst there are several choices of camps and lodges, we recommend the Porini camps as they have won so many eco awards over the years, leading the way in community involvement and wildlife and environment sustainability.

Nairobi

On arrival we will meet you at the airport and transport you to a local hotel for the night for you to catch up on sleep and relax before we ramp up the experience in the days to come.

Overnight at Crown Plaza, Bed & Breakfast

Amboseli National Park

After an early breakfast, we will take you to the nearby domestic airport for your short flight to Amboseli.  Your transfer to camp is also a safari drive as you will land either within the conservancy or National Park.

Have lunch and then head out mid afternoon for a game drive to remember in the conservancy. With open borders, the wildlife is free to migrate between the main National Park and this conservancy.  There are a wealth of animals to seek and view but most memorably the elephants that Amboseli is famous for.

The following day is a great opportunity to head off to the nearby Amboseli National Park and take a picnic with you as your day will fly past as you have sighting after sighting.

Depending how your day progresses, take a guided walk along a dry river bed spotting the animal prints and nearby wildlife and your Masai guides will be happy to challenge you to a spear throwing contest.

Overnight at Porini Amboseli Camp, Full Board for two nights

Meru National Park

After another early breakfast, head back to the air strip for your flight to Meru.  This park was made particularly famous by Joy Adamson and her and her husband George's interactions with the resident lions – in particular the famous Elsa.

You will have time for an afternoon game drive and then an early and late game drive the next day.  Close by your lodge is a rhino protection area so you will be able to see these magnificent beasts on route to the main part of the park in your search for one of the lion prides who roam the landscape.

The ecosystem is fairly bushy in places so pretty tricky to seek out wildlife in these areas as you will see their camouflage fully operational, but there are plenty of plains and watering spots where you will see everything you wish.

This park is much less trodden by tourists so offers a wonderful very private experience.

Whilst your accommodation is not a Porini, it is operated by the same business so follows the same underlying environment ethics and service levels. There is a nice deck area and a pool for you to relax inbetween your game drives.

Overnight at Rhino River Camp, Full Board for two nights

Laikipia – Ol Pejeta

Leaving Meru will have you at your next stop before you know it.  A very short flight will have you landed in Nanyuki for a short drive to your camp.  Your driver guide will make sure you have a good game drive on route.

After lunch head out into the park to see the rhino exceptionally close up as this conservancy is possibly the most successful preservation area for both the black and white rhino.  It is also the home to the last of the Northern Whites which is very sad but you can take the opportunity for a visit to see them in their extra secure protected areas which is a stern reminder that we must take care of our world.

On your second day, your driver will as always make sure your day is tailored around the wildlife you wish to view.  Back at the camp there is also a hide where you can watch the animals come and go to top up their liquid and salt at the waterhole.

Overnight at Porini Rhino Camp, Full Board for two nights

Masai Mara National Park

A direct flight down to the Mara will have you taken from camp to camp within three hours.

We recommend you split your stay in the Mara over four days to make sure you maximise your chance of seeing the big cats as well as seeing the diverse nature of the Mara ecosystem.

Starting your stay in the east of the area in the Ol Kinyei conservancy will provide you with the most private Mara experience possible with only Porini Camps occupying this vast area.

For the second part of your stay you will transverse the Naboisho conservancy and then stay in the Olare Motorogi conservancy.  Here you are most likely to gain the most big cat sightings as several large prides converge in this area.

Take mainly morning and afternoon game drives, but whilst staying in the Olare Motorogi conservancy we will take you on a day long trip into the main Masai Mara National Park and introduce you to further lion prides and seek out cheetah on the plains.

Overnight at Porini Lion Camp, Full Board for two nights

On your final morning, you can grab one last safari experience before you board your flight onwards.  If you are just here for safari we will send you back to Nairobi for your journey home.  If you want some beach style relaxation, there are direct flights down to the coast where we would have you on the beach by lunch time.  We highly recommend this option with four to six nights relaxation on the coast to wind down and reflect on the wonderful journey at the start of your holiday.
